It’s all too common in American culture to measure life by an external subject.  Take the traditional week.

This is an old cartoon yet gets the point across perfectly.

Wednesday is called hump day.  People live for their weekends and dread Mondays.  Yet when the week is looked upon in another light the traditional days off of Saturday and Sunday become the beginning of one person’s work week having a Dreaded Monday become their hump day and Wednesday becomes the “Fantastic Friday!”  So much emotion and dedication on one’s life to allow days of a week (a form of measurement) become such a big part of something so small. Days eventually turn into weeks, weeks into months, that become years.  Years turn into decades and centuries and on and on.  Hmmm.
